For Heaven's Sake は英語の熟語で「お願いだから」の意味だそうです。
Billy Holidayの歌声が有名なこの曲ですが、インスト曲としてもBill Evans .McCoy Tyner .Horace Silve r等、多くのミュージシャンに取り上げられている有名曲。邦題「神に誓って」
初めて聴いたのは、Chet Bakerの歌声。
それまで彼の声があまり好きにはなれず、なんとも緩い（＆ぬるい）感じが苦手でした。Trumpetの音はとても哀愁があり素敵だなと思えましたが歌声は私の心にはなかなかグッと来ず。
ですが、この曲は彼の歌声にしっくりと馴染み、あまい歌詞がクールに響き、余裕のある＆余白のある穏やかな恋が感じられます。
『♪お願いだから恋をしましょう。ためしがいのあるロマンス。それは避けられないチャンス。今宵は私たちだけの物。だからお願い、恋をしましょう～』と歌われる曲。
この曲を歌う時は いつも「天国を夢見る純粋な子どもの心」と「ロマンスをためせる大人の余裕」がミックスされ、とても複雑な気持ちになります。
そんな複雑な気持ちを抱えながらも、穏やかな真っ直ぐな音を丁寧に丁寧に♪
