ガーシュイン兄弟の作品で1926年のミュージカル「Oh,Kay!」の為に書かれたもの。
邦題「やさしき伴侶を」
数々の映画やテレビCM等でも使われ、誰もが一度は耳にしたことのあるスタンダードソング。発表から90年の時を超え、今なお愛され歌い継がれる名曲です。
私自身もこの曲を何度も耳にしていましたが、なんとなく知っている曲という認識でしかなく、私にとっての特別な曲では無かったのですが・・・。
映画「Mr.Holland's Opus（陽のあたる教室）」1995年の中で歌われるこの曲を聴き、そのストーリーのドキドキ感も相まって、この曲に魅了されました。
映画は音楽家である男性の半生が描かれていますが、ジャンルを問わず名曲が満載。
ガーシュインのナンバーも数多く使われ、その中でもこの「Someone to watch over me」は大きな意味を持っています。
「♪私を見守ってくれる人をずっと探し求めている ハンサムでなくてもいい 私の心を開く鍵を持っている人 誰か彼に急いでと伝えて 早く私を捕まえてほしい 私には見守ってくれる人が必要だから～」と歌われる曲。
この曲を歌うときは、純粋な真っ直ぐな気持ちを決して見失わない様に。
